Redesign of existing website
The Anchor Inn is a 15th century pub nestling in the East Sussex village of Hartfield, in the heart of Ashdown Forest. Their original website was functional, but had started to look dated and didn’t perform well on mobile phones. Thanks to its new chef, the Anchor Inn had also developed its reputation for fine food using local produce, and needed its website to reflect this.
We felt that the existing website lacked the warmth and welcome of the pub itself, as it was based too strongly on the pub’s black and red branding. While it provided sufficient information, it failed to engage the visitor and, as a result, was missing opportunities to promote the pub’s restaurant, accommodation and frequent events.
We’ve blended a fresh, modern website design with strong photography to reflect the ambience and traditional feel of the pub. The resulting website gives visitors the impression of a public house that combines traditional surroundings with modern food and drink.
While retaining elements of the black and red branding, we haven’t allowed this to dominate the design, so the website has a warm and inviting feel.
Incorporating feeds from the pub’s excellent TripAdvisor reviews and social media activity ensures that the website is always up to date, without any extra effort on the part of the owners.
The new website now reflects the traditional roots of this historic pub, while showcasing the work of their expert chef and their many events.
Looks fantastic. Brilliant job!
